This introductory course aims to development of a new approach to instrumental education, where movement with the instrument is a core value and skill developed in early instrumental learning.
The development of this approach is based on training and decades of experience in the fields of Dalcroze Eurythmics, Suzuki Flute Education and my foundational work in the Laban Bartenieff Movement System. Alongside this practical experience, it also includes a strong theoretical foundation.
I am inspired by the work of my advisor Prof. Dr. Luc Nijs - We share the belief that:
"the main idea behind this approach is the idea that musical craftsmanship and the instrumental learning process that leads to it, cannot be separated from physical freedom when playing a musical instrument. This physical freedom is characteristic of an optimal relationship between musician and instrument and at the same time the condition for being able to fully immerse yourself in the music and to play this music in an expressive way." ~LN
Beginning in September 2024, introductory flute classes will be given at the Conservatoire de Musique in Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg. These classes are organized as part of a scientific study originating from the University of Luxembourg. This study is part of Emma Shubin's doctoral research, which examines how to integrate movement into early instrumental learning using the pedagogical approaches of Dalcroze, Suzuki, and Laban. Classes will be movement based and student-centered, focusing on creativity, improvisation, play based musicianship development leading to a successful foundation and beginning to each student's flute journey. If you are signed up for this course, on this website you will find all the necessary information about Flute Moves.
